A Water pH Reminder

Date: 7/1/2009

In a recent news release concerning safe swimming practices, the Consumer Products Safety Commission noted the several thousand emergency room visits each year due to injuries sustained when the pools chemistry had not been properly maintained. This resulted in skin and eye injuries.

pH is a measure of the acidity or alkalinity of pool water. The pH should be maintained between 7.2 and 7.6, or slightly alkaline.

The chemical balance for laundering is also critical. Washes usually require a pH of 10.0 to 11.6, while rinses usually vary from 3.5 to 6.0. This enhances the feel of sheets and towels and provides longer life for bedding and bath items.
